National Security Leader: Senate Should Confirm Magnus Quickly

November 3, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – National security leaders are underscoring their support for Chief Chris Magnus to be confirmed as Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), ahead of a Senate committee hearing Tuesday.

The Council on National Security and Immigration weighed in on Magnus’s nomination in July. The nomination has been on hold, but next week’s hearing will move it forward. Magnus is currently the police chief in Tucson, Arizona.

“As CBP commissioner, Chief Magnus will bring strong leadership and immediate attention to our borders, where we need clear direction,” said CNSI leader Stewart Verdery. “A leadership vacuum is contributing to our challenges at the southern border. Chief Magnus will face tough questions, but senators should recognize that he has the skills and mindset to lead. The Senate should move forward and confirm him quickly.”
