WASHINGTON – Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) today released a statement expressing its appreciation that the Trump administration is keeping in place protections for both Afghans who entered the U.S. under Operation Allies Welcome and Ukrainians who entered the U.S. under the Uniting for Ukraine initiative, even as the administration winds down other parole programs.

“Maintaining these programs for Afghans and Ukrainians reflects a recognition that they serve both humanitarian and strategic national security interests. We are hopeful that this step leads to a lasting commitment to preserve these life-saving efforts. These programs provide critical, lawful pathways to safety for individuals who have supported U.S. national security objectives and those fleeing conflict and persecution.

“While maintaining these programs is a welcome step, CNSI continues to call on Congress and the administration to build on this progress by reintroducing and passing bipartisan Afghan adjustment legislation. Such legislation would offer permanent status to tens of thousands of evacuated Afghans currently residing in the U.S. and facing legal uncertainty. Our Afghan allies stood with us in time of need; now it’s time for the United States to stand with them.”
