WASHINGTON – Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI) today released a statement expressing deep concern over the Trump administration's decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 9,000 Afghans residing in the United States.

“Allowing TPS for Afghans to expire will not only endanger the lives of individuals who have supported U.S. efforts abroad but also undermine our national security by weakening America's credibility on the global stage. By removing TPS protections, the administration is signaling that it is safe for these individuals to return to Afghanistan—a nation still grappling with significant security challenges under Taliban rule.

“Many of those affected by this decision are individuals who stood alongside U.S. forces, risking their lives in support of our mission. Revoking their protected status now is a betrayal of the promises made to them.

“This decision sets a troubling precedent, suggesting that the U.S. may not honor its commitments to those who assist us in times of conflict. We urge the administration to reconsider this decision and uphold our moral and strategic obligations to Afghan allies.”
